eXPeRience THE SPIRIT OF HANNUWA

At CapeWine 2018, we invite you to discover how the spirit of hannuwa is shaping South Africa’s wine narrative today. The San people understood the importance of living in balance 200 000 years ago and called it ‘hannuwa’. These indigenous people of southern Africa regulated their behaviour in harmony with plant and animal cycles, the movements of the stars and climatic phenomena. They saw land as a source of life – a gift to mankind that nourishes, supports and teaches.

More than 95% of our wine is produced in the area known as the Cape Floral Kingdom (CFK). One of six such plant kingdoms in the world, it is the smallest, yet richest, home to over 9 500 plant species, more than in the en tire northern hemisphere. The CFK is one of 36 recognised biodiversity hotspots, with 70% of the plants found here not found anywhere else on earth. South Africa is a leader in production integrity, embracing strict guidelines for sustainable farming, and the responsibility of protecting our environment and conserving our unique biodiversity for future generations.

The South African industry has also risen to the challenge of ensuring that production is ethical, a culture of respect is nurtured, and an environment of dignity, equality and upliftment for all is promoted. Remarkable achievements and encouraging results have set the pace.

Come and meet our producers, share their stories and taste their wines at CapeWine 2018, where some 300 wineries will showcase over 5 000 diverse and exciting wines, from iconic garagiste and boutique bottlings to distinctive estate offerings, black-owned brands, Fairtrade labels, and value and volume ranges.
